Deep tissue massage is a firm-pressure therapeutic massage aimed at releasing tension in the deep muscle layers.
This technique is commonly included in a remedial massage session as it helps alleviate pain, muscle spasms, stress, inflammation and tissue damage.
A session incorporating deep tissue massage usually starts with Swedish massage techniques to loosen the more superficial muscle layers, before firmer pressure is used to focus on the deep muscle layers.
As firmer pressure is used, you may experience some discomfort during the session. Communicating with your therapist to work within your comfort levels is important. Additionally, you may feel a little sore the following day, but this should pass by the next day.
If you are in need of a deep tissue massage, book in for a remedial massage session.
